Precision Steering Tie Rod Bushings: Completely Eliminate Play and "Death Wobble"
OEM-grade rubber-to-metal bonded parts designed for Rack and Pinion and Parallel Linkage steering systems.
At GJBUSH, we don’t just mold rubber; we re-engineer steering precision. As a preferred manufacturer of Steering Tie Rod Bushings, we supply the critical rubber-to-metal parts that determine the handling quality of passenger cars, heavy-duty pickups, and off-road vehicles.
From the damping of the Inner Tie Rod to the multi-directional articulation of the Outer Tie Rod, our bushings are designed to handle high-torque steering inputs, resist chassis oil contamination, and prevent the “Death Wobble” common in solid axle suspensions.

Why do top chassis brands choose GJBUSH to optimize steering dynamics
The steering system is the bridge between the driver and the road. Bushing failure means losing control. Here is why Tier-1 suppliers and high-performance brands trust GJBUSH

NVH Vibration Control Experts
By customizing the Radial Stiffness of the bushing, we filter out high-frequency road noise while keeping the steering response sharp and clear. This balance is critical for preventing steering wheel shimmy.

"Death Wobble" Defense Line
For solid axle vehicles (like Jeeps and pickups), lateral stiffness cannot be compromised. Our Heavy-Duty Series uses enhanced rubber geometry to effectively absorb the violent oscillations known as "Death Wobble," ensuring stability under extreme loads.

Superior Bonding Strength
The life of a bushing depends on the bond quality. Using advanced Phosphating pre-treatment and Chemlok® adhesives, we achieve a Push-out Force of >10kN. This ensures the rubber never peels away from the metal sleeve, even under extreme articulation.

Oil and Grease Shield
Tie rods sit under the engine and are often exposed to leaking fluids. We use special oil-resistant NBR (Nitrile) and CR (Neoprene) formulas that resist swelling and softening, keeping the part's dimensions stable for its entire life.

Understand the layered structure behind our high performance

Inner Sleeve (The Anchor)
Material: Cold-rolled seamless steel tube.
Treatment: Zinc-Nickel plating or Phosphating to maximize the bonding surface area and provide rust protection.

Rubber Elastomer (The Damper)
- Material: Custom rubber formulas (NR/BR/CR), optimized for dynamic stiffness.
- Design: Includes specific voids (optional) to adjust directional stiffness (balancing comfort with handling).

Outer Shell / Exoskeleton (The Interface)
- Material: Precision stamped steel shell.
- Tolerance: Machined to an H7/s6 Interference Fit, ensuring the bushing presses firmly into the tie rod eyelet without loosening.
FEA Finite Element Analysis: Predicting Failure Before Molding
We don’t guess; we simulate.

Torsional Analysis
We simulate the twisting motion of the tie rod during lock-to-lock steering to ensure the rubber does not tear.

Axial Load Simulation
We test the bushing’s ability to resist side forces during cornering.

Fatigue Prediction
Using FEA, we identify stress concentration points and optimize the rubber shape to ensure the product lasts more than 1,000,000 cycles.
IATF 16949 Certified: Zero-Defect Steering Safety
There is no room for compromise with safety parts.

100% Dimensional Inspection: Automated laser equipment sorts parts by Inner Diameter (ID) and Outer Diameter (OD).
Rheometer Testing: Every batch of mixed rubber is tested for its curing characteristics (T90) before it goes into the mold.
- Traceability: Metal sleeves are laser-marked, allowing us to track the batch from raw materials all the way to final assembly.

Critical Installation Locations
- Inner Tie Rod Connection: The pivot point connecting the Steering Rack to the tie rod arm; requires high flexibility.
- Outer Tie Rod Eyelet: Connects to the Steering Knuckle; requires high stiffness to transmit steering inputs accurately.
- Steering Damper Mount: Auxiliary bushings for steering shock absorbers, used to absorb rebound shocks from rough roads.

From Raw Materials to Precision Bonded Parts

Metal Pre-treatment
create a chemically active surface for bonding.

Adhesive Application
Robots automatically spray the adhesive (Primer + Cover Coat).

Vulcanization Molding
Injection molding is done under precisely controlled heat (160°C+) and pressure, locking the rubber and metal together at the molecular level.

Post-processing
Removing flash (excess rubber) and applying anti-rust coatings.
Engineer’s Guide: How to Evaluate Steering Bushing Performance
1. Diagnosing Steering "Dead Spots" (Play)
- “Dead spots” or play in the steering wheel usually mean the tie rod bushing has lost its elasticity or the bond has failed. When rubber suffers from Compression Set (permanent deformation) or tearing, the metal sleeve moves before the rubber engages. GJBUSH formulas prioritize a Low Compression Set rate, ensuring the steering system stays tight and responsive for years.

2. Rubber vs. Polyurethane
- Why OEMs Prefer Rubber While Polyurethane is popular in racing for its hardness, it transfers too much road noise and vibration (NVH) to the driver. For OEM and daily driving, Rubber is superior. It has a unique ability to absorb road bumps while still providing the necessary articulation angles, protecting the steering rack from impact loads.
3. The Science of "Pre-load" Correct installation is vital.
Tie rod bushings must be designed with the correct “interference fit.” When pressed into the tie rod eyelet, the rubber is pre-compressed. This Pre-load ensures the rubber remains under compression (squeezed) rather than tension (stretched) during operation, which significantly extends the fatigue life of the part.

Common Questions About Custom Steering Tie Rod Bushings
Can you customize the Shore A Hardness for high-performance applications?
Yes. Standard bushings are usually 55-60 Shore A. For high-performance or heavy-duty use, we can adjust the formula to 70-75 Shore A for a stiffer handling feel.
Do you supply the metal housing/tie rod bar, or just the bushing?
GJBUSH specializes in the rubber-to-metal bonded bushing (the inner core). However, if you need the complete control arm or tie rod assembly, we have forging and machining partners to provide a full service.
What is the lead time for custom tooling (molds)?
Usually 25-30 days, which includes mold development and sample approval (PPAP).
